Korea has an excellent railroad network which provides an
efficient and affordable means of travel throughout the Korean
peninsula. Busan Station is located in downtown Busan (Subway
Line 1 station number 13) and is the principal station in the
southeast region. Busan is the starting point of the Gyeongbu
railroad (see also KTX below), Donghae railroad and Gyeong-jeon railroad, which link
Busan with other cities including Seoul, Daegu, and Daejeon.
Prices vary depending upon destination.
In particular, the
Gyeongbu railroad links Busan and Seoul via Daegu, Gumi, Daejeon,
Cheonan and Suwon. There are three classes of service: Saemaeul,
Mugungwha, and Tongilho. Saemaeul trains are express trains that
make fewer stops. Mugungwha and Tongilho trains run along the Gyeong-jeon line via Samnangjin, Masan and Mokpo. Mugungwha trains
also run along the Donghae line via Ulsan, Gyeongju, Pohang,
Gangneung and Seoul.
KTX
- The
New
High
Speed Train
The newly opened high-speed KTX train
line between Busan And Seoul
(the Gyeongbu Line) provides quick and easy travel between
Korea's two main cities. See adjacent map.
KTX travel times between Busan and Seoul are less than 3-hours and when the fast track
section between Busan and Daejeon is complete, journey times will further reduce.
One main advantage is that he KTX provides a link between city
centres and so reducing travel time to and from the airports,
which are often outside the city itself.
The KTX train provides a comfortable travel method and is set to become the
preferred transportation of the next generation. Ticket purchasing
can made via a reservation system, but should be made one week in advance.
The reservation telephone number is +82 51 1544-8545.
